Candles Are An Affordable Luxury
Everywhere we go, we are inundated by marketing messages that tell us to buy, buy, buy. Of course, all of us want to give ourselves presents and little luxuries, but all too often a modest budget makes it hard to purchase everything we want. The trick, I’ve discovered, is to buy a few truly luxurious items that don’t cost a fortune. Rather than creating the home of our dreams by instantly hiring an interior designer, for example, we can often create a wonderful home environment by bringing in just a few items. For example, we can drape beautiful fabrics all over our furniture and over our windows to create an instant luxurious feel. Then, we can light quality scented candles in every room, creating a warm light and delicious fragrance. While fabrics and candles can cost very little, they can magically transform our environment.
In fact, scented candles are one of my favorite affordable luxuries, and I have many friends who feel the exact same way about quality scented candles as I do. One of my friends is going through the immigration process, filling out USCIS green card renewal forms and other immigration forms. Her life is very stressful and she is on a limited budget while she works her way up a new career path here. However, she is still able to create a wonderful home environment and to enjoy true luxury everywhere simply by lighting a few scented candles. She has special scented candles for her work environment, to reduce stress while she works. She also has different scented candles in every room of her house, lending a wonderful soft glow and a wonderful fragrance when she needs to unwind at the end of the day.
Scented candles are wonderful because they offer light, soothing fragrance, and wonderful beauty. The best quality scented candles come in beautiful etched glass jars, which can then be reused for pencils, pens, or as little tiny flower vases. Glass jars make scented candles a truly beautiful and special gift to ourselves. While quality scented candles or luxury scented candles tend to cost a little bit more than the cheap candles you might buy at your grocery store, I have found that in the long run they are actually a much better bargain. Quality scented candles often are cleaner burning, more pleasantly scented, and offer true feeling of luxury. Plus, these candles often last a very long time. For example, my luxury Votiva candles burn for 60 hours, which gives me about a month’s time or even more than a month’s time of evening candlelight. Best of all, quality scented candles stay luxuriously fragrant until the last drop of wax is gone, so I don’t have the frustration of having a half burnt candle that no longer burns well.
Of course, there are ways to make scented candles, the ultimate affordable luxury, even more affordable. I buy many of my scented candles online, since online retailers are often able to give me a better deal than my local luxury décor shop. Plus, I often pop my candles in to the freezer for a few minutes before burning them. This allows them to burn more slowly. Finally, I use my unlit candles in drawers as sachets. Once I open a candle, I often use the packaging, including the pretty box, in my drawers as a sentenced sachet, giving all my sweaters and clothes a nice boost of scent.
